AI Prompts for Etsy SEO: Break Through the 3 Walls Holding Your Shop Back (270 Copy-and-Paste Prompts)

The product is good. The page number is the problem.

You made something you are proud of. You wrote the listing, took the photos, and published it. Then you checked the stats, and the numbers were small.

I’m not an Etsy seller. I build AI prompt systems, so for this guide I studied Etsy SEO, listing copy and product research, and where AI helps and where it can only guess. This post is what I found.

The 3 Walls

The book describes three walls that most struggling sellers hit:

  • Visibility. Nobody finds the listing, because the title and tags are generic.
  • Conversion. People click, but do not buy, because the listing does not answer their questions.
  • Research. The product was chosen by gut feeling, not by checking demand.

AI can help with all three. But a vague prompt gives a vague result.

One Prompt for Your 13 Tags

Etsy gives you a title of up to 140 characters and 13 tags of up to 20 characters each. That is 260 characters of tags. Here is Prompt #1.16:

“Generate a complete set of 13 Etsy SEO tags for [product]. Rules: (1) each tag must be under 20 characters including spaces, (2) use multi-word phrases whenever possible, (3) include a mix of high-volume broad tags and low-competition long-tail tags, (4) avoid repeating words already in the title. Product: [describe product]. Title: [paste title].”

It works because the rules are in the prompt: the length limit, the phrase style, and no repeats. Check the limits on Etsy before you rely on them, since platforms change.

Before and After

Weak: “Write tags for my candle.”

Better: give the product, the current title, the buyer and the rules, then ask for 13 tags in multi-word phrases. Check each tag against what you actually sell.

The second version gives the AI limits to work within.

What Is Inside

270 numbered prompts, plus a 50-niche idea list and a 20-step checklist:

  • Chapter 1: Etsy SEO fundamentals, titles, tags and audits (40 prompts)
  • Chapter 2: listing copy, A/B tests and honest urgency (50)
  • Chapter 3: product research, seasonal trends and niches (50)
  • Chapter 4: advanced SEO, cross-promotion and recovery from traffic drops (40)

  • Bonuses: 20 prompt tweaks for ChatGPT, a 20-step SEO checklist, 50 niche ideas with prompt templates, 20 competitor-analysis prompts and 10 quick-start prompts

They work in Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and other AI tools.

What AI Cannot See

This is the part that protects you.

It cannot see Etsy’s search data. A prompt that asks the AI to “rank by likely search volume” gets a guess. The book’s own tip is to check Etsy’s search autocomplete too. I would go further: use real data, and paste it in.

It does not know Etsy’s algorithm. Etsy does not publish exactly how it ranks listings, so any claim about “what the algorithm wants” is a theory. Change one thing at a time, wait, and measure.

Its sales estimates are scenarios. Prompts that estimate views and sales per month produce rough models, not facts.

Urgency That Is Honest

One of my favourite chapters is about urgency without fake scarcity. Prompt #2.36:

“Write 5 urgency statements for [product] that are 100% honest and based on real business realities (not fake countdown timers or false ‘only 1 left’ claims). My actual business constraints: [describe — e.g., limited holiday production slots, seasonal pricing, custom order lead times]. Make each statement compelling and specific, under 20 words.”

Use only deadlines and stock numbers that are true.

Who It Is For

Etsy sellers at any stage, selling handmade, digital or custom products.

Use It Carefully

Do not paste buyers’ names, addresses or private messages into a public AI tool. Avoid brand names, artists and fandom terms in titles and tags unless you have the right to use them. If AI helps create the product itself, check Etsy’s current rules.

Start With One Listing

Pick your weakest listing. Run Prompt #1.16 on it, change the tags, and note the date. Then check your stats again in a few weeks.

I cannot promise rankings, sales or income. Etsy’s rules and search change often, so check Etsy’s current policies before you publish.
